General Outline

Our laboratory studies the cell and molecular mechanisms that control trafficking of transmembrane proteins within the secretory pathway and how these processes are hijacked by viruses.

Research Interests

The work in the laboratory has currently three foci: 1) The molecular mechanisms by which HIV-1 Nef and Vpu proteins modify intracellular protein trafficking pathways to induce changes in the intracellular fate of host restriction factors. 2) The molecular mechanisms involved in targeting of HIV-1 gp41/gp120 envelope proteins within the host secretory pathway and how this influences viral production and infectivity. 3) The cell and molecular mechanisms involved in protein transport and assembly of Bunyaviruses that cause human diseases.
